I was reading this great talk on Peace by Joseph B. Wirthlin (found here: https://www.lds.org/general-
"The phrase “Peace, be still” (Mark 4:39), that the Savior uttered when he calmed the storm-tossed sea, can have the same calming influence upon us when we are buffeted by life’s storms. "
One of my favorite hymns is "Where Can I Turn for Peace?"
The first verse is this:
Where can I turn for peace?
Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart,
Searching my soul?
The line that stood out to me was "When other sources cease to make me whole?" There are so many people out there in search for peace, but they have no idea where to find it. Some try to find it in drugs or alcohol. Others have just given up. In the scripture it says "not as the world giveth, I give unto you." That brings me to the last verse in the hymn:
He answers privately,
Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind,
Love without end.
Whenever I'm feeling down or just having a bad day, I always feel better if I pray and read my scriptures. Through the scriptures and prayer he can successfully "reach my reaching" He's the best friend anyone could have. He's someone who understands all you are going through, because he's been through it all. He gives the best advice through the scriptures and our prophets and apostles. He knows just what you need to hear to feel comfort. He can help us be forgiven of our sins so that we might not feel guilt and pain.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching,
Constant he is and kind,
Love WITHOUT end.
The Savior is my best friend. And he can be your best friend too.
